Caroline County picks up where Spotsylvania ends and runs south along I-95 toward Hanover. Bowling Green is the county seat, with older houses on and around its main street. Ladysmith and Ruther Glen, out by the interstate, hold most of the newer subdivisions and townhomes. Port Royal is a tiny river town on the Rappahannock, and much of what's left is hay fields, timber and homes at the end of long gravel drives.
