Historic homes need a lighter touch.
Old houses have small rooms, uneven floors and walls that aren't quite square. The fix isn't a wider lens. It's choosing the right corner and letting the details carry it: original mantels, heart pine floors, built-ins, the stair rail. We shoot extra detail frames on historic listings (add 6 to 10 for $75) because that's what buyers of these homes are paying for.
Waterfront is a different shoot.
At Fawn Lake and Lake Anna the water is the product. We plan the shoot around the light on the water, shoot the dock and the view from inside, and use aerials to show the shoreline, the depth of the lot and where the home sits on the lake. For these, real twilight ($250) is often the photo that does the most work.
