Real estate photography jobs in Northern Virginia.
Fairfax County, Arlington and Alexandria are the busiest listing markets in the region, and the most varied. One day you're lighting a 1960s split-level in Springfield, the next you're shooting a high-rise condo with a view of the Potomac.
What you'll shoot here.
Inside the Beltway it's condos and apartments along the Rosslyn to Ballston corridor, brick rowhouses and historic homes in Old Town Alexandria, and towers going up around Tysons. Farther out, Fairfax, Burke, Vienna and Centreville are colonials, split-levels and townhome communities with finished basements to light well.

The work that fits here.
Condo work here is a skill of its own: tight kitchens, glass walls with a bright city behind them, and a lobby or rooftop the agent wants in the set. Split-levels and colonials farther out need even light across finished basements and level changes. Old Town rowhouses reward slow interiors and a careful street-level exterior, and headshots and agent-on-camera reels are part of the menu here too. Garden-style apartments around Annandale and Bailey's Crossroads round out the mix with smaller, quicker sets.
Drone work in Northern Virginia.
Drone work is available here too; it just takes more paperwork. Most of the inner suburbs sit inside the 15-mile DC restricted zone around Reagan National, so for those addresses the pilot files the FAA/TSA authorization before the flight. That makes strong interiors and clean exteriors from the street the everyday skill in this area, with aerials planned ahead. Farther west it gets simpler: Centreville is outside every ring, while Chantilly sits close enough to Dulles to need LAANC authorization first.
| Place | Booking check | Ring |
|---|---|---|
| Old Town Alexandria | FAA/TSA authorization first | DC Flight Restricted Zone, 3.3 mi from its center |
| Clarendon (Arlington) | FAA/TSA authorization first | DC Flight Restricted Zone, 3.9 mi from its center |
| Tysons | FAA/TSA authorization first | DC Flight Restricted Zone, 11.4 mi from its center |
| Springfield | FAA/TSA authorization first | DC Flight Restricted Zone, 9.1 mi from its center |
| Fairfax City | FAA/TSA authorization first | DC Flight Restricted Zone, 14.4 mi from its center |
| Burke | FAA/TSA authorization first | DC Flight Restricted Zone, 13.3 mi from its center |
| Centreville | Clear | Outside every ring we check |
| Chantilly | LAANC first | Dulles (IAD) Class B, 4.3 mi from its center |
Every gig address is rechecked at booking, and the pilot runs B4UFLY on the day.
Getting around.
Plan for I-66, the Beltway and Route 7. Condo shoots need extra time: some buildings have their own rules for parking, the loading dock or the elevator, and the access notes on the gig carry whatever the client told us.
Distance: about 13 to 17 miles from Woodbridge (county centers).

Northern Virginia questions.
Why do drone shoots here take more planning?
Arlington, Alexandria and much of eastern Fairfax are inside the DC Flight Restricted Zone, 15 miles around Reagan National. Drone work still happens there; the pilot files the FAA/TSA authorization before the flight.
Are condo shoots common?
Yes, especially in Arlington and Alexandria. Check the access notes on the gig for parking and building rules.
Which zone do I tick for this area?
The Fairfax, Alexandria and Arlington zone in your Profile & Drone settings.
How does pay work?
Pay details are shared privately once you're approved: in your contractor agreement, and on every gig before you accept it.
