Montgomery County, Maryland

Real estate photography in Montgomery County, MD.

Montgomery County runs from the DC line all the way up to farm country on the Frederick County border. In between are older inner suburbs, planned communities up I-270, and close to a third of the county set aside as the Agricultural Reserve. Our city pages cover the busiest markets; this page covers everywhere else, and how the county fits together.

One county, three different shoots.

Inside the Beltway, homes are older and lots are tight, and the DC zone covers most of it, so the photos and a 3D tour carry the listing while aerials get planned a few days out. Up the I-270 corridor, townhome communities in Clarksburg and Germantown compete with near-identical units, so a strong cover photo and a measured floor plan ($75) matter more than anything else. Upcounty and out west, listings around Damascus and Poolesville are about land: acreage, barns, fields and long driveways, which is where aerials and a land shoot earn their place.

Farm country inside the county line.

The Agricultural Reserve, created in 1980, keeps close to a third of the county in farms and open space, and homes out there sell on what surrounds them. We shoot the house, then the outbuildings, fences and fields, and fly the property to show the whole parcel and what borders it. For a place with a barn, paddocks or a long lane, our notes on horse farms and estates cover the extras. These are long drives from Woodbridge, so we try to group upcounty shoots on the same day.

Drone photography in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County splits cleanly in our check. At the south end, Kensington is inside the DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National) in our check, so our pilot files the FAA/TSA authorization before the flight (book a few business days ahead), and Bethesda and Silver Spring are in the same position. Upcounty, Olney clears every ring in our airspace check, and so do Clarksburg, Damascus, Poolesville and Burtonsville. Most of the county also sits under the FAA's wider Washington Special Flight Rules Area, where Part 107 flights follow the normal rules plus whatever authorization the spot needs, which is one more reason the pilot checks before every flight.

Our airspace check, place by place. Drone is available at every one of them. FAA/TSA authorization filed ahead: Kensington (DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National)). Clear of every ring: Olney, Clarksburg, Damascus, Poolesville and Burtonsville. Every address is checked when you book, and the pilot runs B4UFLY and LAANC on the day of every flight.

Montgomery County questions.

Which parts of Montgomery County need extra lead time for drone?

The south end, inside the DC zone. Kensington is inside the DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National) in our check, so our pilot files the FAA/TSA authorization before the flight (book a few business days ahead). Do you shoot farms and land in the Agricultural Reserve?

Is there a travel fee anywhere in Montgomery County?
