Potomac, Montgomery County, Maryland

Real estate photography in Potomac, MD.

Potomac sits just outside the Beltway along the river, and it's estate country: big colonials and contemporaries on acre lots, custom builds along River Road, larger parcels out toward Travilah, and the C&O Canal running beside the Potomac. These are long, detailed shoots, and the edge of the DC zone runs right through the area, so the address decides the drone plan.

A long shoot for a big house.

A Potomac estate can have a two-story foyer, a library, a lower level with a theater and a pool house out back, and every one of those is a selling point. That's more frames than a standard package holds, so we usually start from Signature Luxury ($895), which includes a cinematic film and a 3D tour so buyers can find every room. For homes with grounds, we plan the day so the pool, the terrace and the lawn each get their own light, then come back at dusk for a real twilight ($250). More on how we handle these in luxury listings.

The land is half the listing.

On a two-acre lot, the house is only part of what's for sale. Buyers want to know where the property ends, how private it is and what's next door, and ground photos can't answer that. Aerials of the lot lines, the drive and the tree cover can. For homes inside the DC zone we file for the flight authorization as soon as you book, so the aerials are ready before the listing goes live. Barns, paddocks and riding rings get their own set; see horse farms and estates.

Drone photography in Potomac.

The edge of the DC zone cuts right across Potomac. Potomac Village is inside the DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National) in our check, so our pilot files the FAA/TSA authorization before the flight (book a few business days ahead), and Avenel is in the same position. Farther west and up along the river it opens up: Travilah clears every ring in our airspace check, and so does the Great Falls stretch of the canal. The C&O Canal is national park land with its own rules on launching, so river-side aerials are flown from the listing's own lot.

Our airspace check, place by place. Drone is available at every one of them. FAA/TSA authorization filed ahead: Potomac Village (DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National)), Avenel (DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National)) and Great Falls (C&O Canal) (DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National)). Clear of every ring: Travilah. Every address is checked when you book, and the pilot runs B4UFLY and LAANC on the day of every flight.

    Potomac questions.

Can you fly a drone in Potomac?

Yes. Potomac Village is inside the DC Flight Restricted Zone (17.3 miles around Reagan National) in our check, so our pilot files the FAA/TSA authorization before the flight (book a few business days ahead). Travilah clears every ring in our airspace check. Every address is checked when you book, so you'll know the lead time before you pay.

How long does a Potomac estate shoot take?

Plan on most of a day for a large home with film and grounds. A Signature shoot is about four hours on site, plus a return at dusk if you add a real twilight.

Can you photograph the barn, paddocks and pool house?

Yes. Outbuildings and grounds get their own frames, and aerials show how they sit on the land.

Is there a travel fee to Potomac?

No. Potomac is in Montgomery County, inside our no-travel-fee area.
